Women and Parliament

This year we celebrate 150 years since Millicent Fawcett and her fellow campaigners presented the first petition to parliament on women’s suffrage. We are keen to encourage women to participate in Parliament – either by giving evidence to select committees, becoming Members of Parliament or having a civil service career in Parliament.

At the Fawcett Society one of our campaigns is Counting Women in which supports the 50:50 campaign.

We are planning an event which helps women (and men) understand what is involved in having a role in parliament so as to to give women the confidence to put themselves forward for election or through reporting issues to Parliament.
