Here are some frequently asked questions about UK Parliament Week.
Signing up for UK Parliament Week
1. What do I have to do to take part?
Just sign up and we’ll send you a free UK Parliament Week kit full of resources to help you take part.
2. What activities can I do?
Whatever works for you, there’s lots of ideas in your kit. You can do the activities in groups, online or any setting that works for you. Just open your kit and go!
3. How many people can take part in my activity?
As many as you like. It can be big or small!
4. Do my activities have to happen during UK Parliament Week?
Your activity can take place at any time, but UK Parliament Week is officially 6-12 November and we would love for you to be part of the action!
5. Will my MP come to my activity?
When you sign up, we will ask you if we can let your MP know you’re taking part. Your MP might get in touch or ask if they can attend your activity – either online or in person. There was an average of 15 events in each constituency last year, so they won’t be able to attend every activity.
- You can get in touch with your MP to invite them to your UKPW activity.
- Or you could invite a Member of the Lords, a local councillor or elected mayor.
If you live in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales you may want to invite your MLA, MSP or MS.
6. Will other people be able to see my activity online?
No, activity details aren’t published on the website.
7. Will my activity be covered by the media?
When you sign up we will ask you if we can let your local journalists know you are taking part. If you choose yes, they may get in touch with you and request information about your event.
8. Will my activity get any recognition?
You can nominate your activity for the UK Parliament Week Champion of the Year Award. Nominations will open on 6 November 2023.
9. Is there a sign up deadline?
Sign up will close on 12 November. Don’t wait till the deadline, we only have 10,000 free kits and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
9. What’s in my kit?
The kit is packed with useful resources. You’ll find bunting, stickers, a unique Big Ben ballot box, a competitive board game ‘The Ayes Have It’, and also a booklet. The UKPW booklets are tailored for primary schools, secondary schools, youth groups or adults, so you can pick whichever suits you best.
10. When will I get my kit?
Kits will start being sent out during the summer. Remember to provide your full address and postcode so we know where to send your kit.
11. How much does it cost?
It’s free. All you need to do is sign up!
12. Can I have more than one kit?
Yes – you will need to sign up separately for each kit that you require.
13. Can you send me additional items from the kit?
It isn’t possible to send out individual items from the kit but you can sign up for additional kits to receive additional items.
After UK Parliament Week
14. Do I get a certificate or badge?
Everyone will get a digital certificate after they complete the feedback survey which will be emailed to you at the beginning of UK Parliament Week.
Uniformed organisations can claim badges by completing the same feedback survey. You’ll have to select ‘uniformed youth group’ as your ‘organisation type’ in the survey to be taken to the right page to claim badges. Remember to provide us with a full address to make sure they arrive with you safely.
15. When will my badges arrive?
Badges will be sent out from December 2023. We’ll do our best to get them to you quickly!
