Why do we need politicians?

To mark UK Parliament Week 2016 we are inviting people to join us in answering the question ‘Why do we need politicians?’. We’ll be looking at issues of direct democracy, career politicians, and how MPs can better engage with the public.

We will start the evening with brief thoughts from three guest speakers, and then open the discussion up to people in the room.

At the Democratic Society (Demsoc) we’ve been working on improving democracy for over a decade now, working with local, national, and international governments. This will be the second of our new monthly events in Manchester to bring together a diverse crowd of people with insight or interest in improving our democracy – to debate, to network, and to learn from each other.

If you’re interested in this topic and want to join in a relaxed conversation about how to make our democracy better, then head down.

If you want any further information or have any queries, please get in touch at manchester@demsoc.org. The room we are using is wheelchair accessible. For any other access enquiries, please contact us on the above email or call 0784690260.

We very much look forward to seeing you there.
