Panel discussion

Is technology hurting democracy or can it help to save it? What impact does fake news have on our understanding of the world? If all views are equally valid, does objectivity and balance lose all value?

Come and explore these questions at this House of Commons Library event on fake news and the role of the expert. Our panel will examine the links between technology and democracy, and look at how experts can cut through the noise of the world’s most powerful algorithms.

They want to hear from you too – so come along and ask them your questions on these issues!

The panel:

Penny Young (Chair) – House of Commons Librarian

Professor David De Roure – University of Oxford and former UK National Strategic Director for Digital Social Research at the Economic and Social Research Council

Will Moy – Director of Full Fact

Lucy Sladen – Legal, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Advisor at News Media Association

Dr. Jack Stilgoe – Senior Lecturer at UCL, Science and Technology Policy
