Manifestos and poll cards and ballot boxes – oh my!
An election can often seem like a complicated and confusing process.
Get involved with our mini election session for an entertaining and interactive way to better understand and experience the process that determines who runs our country.
If next year’s General Election is the first you will be able to participate in and you are not sure if or how you should take part then this event is perfect for you. It will be a great way to demystify the election process and consider your democratic rights.
Our mock election will take you from the first all important step of registering to vote, to campaigning, right through to the actual vote and announcing a winner – you’ll get the opportunity to form your own political parties, hear from other attendees who become ‘candidates’ (or become a ‘candidate’ yourself!) and have your say at a polling booth.
Come along to My Big Fat (Mini) Election to get a taste of what it feels like to exercise your democratic rights in an election. Bring along your National Insurance Number to register to vote for real on the day and take the first step towards participating in next year’s General Election.
We are also looking for creative young people to help document the day through filming, photography, blogging and social media and for some young people to help facilitate and run the session. If you are interested in any these opportunities please register using the appropriate ticket and we will contact you with further details.
This event is jointly hosted by the Democratic Engagement Team in Cabinet Office and Parliament’s Education Service.
