Britain and the European Union – the past, the present and the future

The Bodleian Libraries and the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations host a special event for sixth form students on Britain’s past and future relationship with the EU. The event will draw on items from the Bodleian’s political archives, and students will participate in interactive sessions with Oxford researchers and contemporary politicians.

The Bodleian holds the personal archives of senior Conservative and Labour politicians who have negotiated Britain’s involvement with the E.U, including those of former prime ministers Harold Macmillan, Harold Wilson and Edward Heath, as well those of former cabinet members such as Geoffrey Howe, Barbara Castle, James Callaghan, and Roy Jenkins. It also holds the archive of the Conservative Party.
